It’s been a while since we updated you on how our beneficiaries are doing. Here is a roundup of who and how we have supported, along with how they are getting on.
Philip - The Jim Jackson Foundation is covering the full salary costs for Philip while he studies towards his Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship.
Alongside this, he is working towards his Maths and English functional skills – level 2. Last week he had his key Skills English Reading exam result and achieved an amazing 96% pass grade putting him on track for key skills grade equivalent to an A* GCSE.
Philip’s tutor reports:
“Philip’s apprenticeship work has shown very good improvement since he started. He has become more confident in his work role and is communicating and interacting with others better.
Philip is making exceptional progress with his on-the-job training and is going from strength to strength in all areas. So much so that he has twice been put in charge of a team of volunteers and managed the shop unsupervised for an entire day. I cannot express how significant a step this has been and how much it has improved his confidence.”
Michael - The Jim Jackson Foundation is covering the full salary costs for Michael Gray while they study towards their Level 2 Customer Service Apprenticeship within the office.
Their tutor says:
“Michael has completed Induction, first assignment (which was well researched and written) as well as first Observation. They are at the present time on 33%, which is 10% above target.
We are absolutely thrilled with Michael’s progress. They have responded exceptionally well to the nurturing working environment we provide and have become a big part of the team already, greeting clients and dealing with enquiries in a polite and professional manner. They have also taken on some personal projects improving a number of inhouse client stat recording systems. This has benefited the entire organisation.
It has been a pleasure seeing Michael come out of their shell and really start to feel part of the HARC team. “
Megan- The Jim Jackson Foundation is covering the full salary costs for Megan while she studies towards her Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship.
“Megan is doing very well with her Apprenticeship. Her assessor said she is on course for a distinction if she keeps progressing as she has been. Megan has also enrolled in maths classes outside of work hours, she doesn’t need to pass her maths level 2 for the apprenticeship, but she would like to gain this qualification along side her Customer Service course.”
Michael – We have supported Michael with a laptop so that he doesn’t have to travel to the library to use a computer and can study from home. We have also agreed to support him with his travel in order to take up a position at Cork University to study pilot studies and a Global Business Degree with Hons in September.
Jolene – We have recently agreed to support Jolene in her aim of becoming an Aesthetician. She would like to become an Aesthetician in dermal fillers and work towards starting her own business and teaching 1 on 1 classes to other beginners.
In order to do this, she has to first complete online theory training which is coursework that she can study at home which equates to around 7 weeks as she is a beginner and non-medic.
As part of this training, she will learn the following:
•Health and safety in aesthetics practice
•Communication and consultation
•Clinic assessment
•Skin analysis
•Anatomy and physiology for skin treatments.
Tia – Tia had a very difficult upbringing is being supported with a provision of a laptop and accessories to help her with her business course at City of Bristol College and the Princess Trust Enterprise course.
Kirubel – We have provided a payment for International English Language Testing System exam to help him as an asylum seeker and to access higher education in the future.
Habib – Habib had a very troubled and difficult upbringing. We provided him with a payment for his laptop and funded a 10-week course at the Open University for Machine Learning for him to attend.
Finally, our Founder Jill Hill has an existing relationship with a school in India, which Jim and Jill supported for many years. Jill has continued to support the community and has a separate fund that she has supplied JJEEF to continue the legacy that they have started. Jill has personally supported Upsana and Kumar for three years and both are being helped in their further education journey. Their upbringing in acute agricultural poverty meant they would have been unable to attend college or university without our help.
