Two further candidates to receive support from the Foundation

Two further candidates to receive support from the Foundation

The Jim Jackson Foundation is pleased to announce two further candidates are to receive support from the foundation.  After such a successful start from our first candidate Philip, whose application came via Hasting Advice and Representation Centre (HARC), we invited HARC to put forward a secondary candidate.

HARC put forward Michael who currently works alongside Philip within HARCS charity shop. Now with our support Michael can start working towards a Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship.

Much like our first candidate Philip, Michael’s week will consist of 6 hours training and working 24 hours in store. The Foundation will fund Michael’s salary while they are on the scheme, enabling HARC to employ Michael. This will allow them to achieve this qualification and then enter further education or the world of business.

Michael aspires to work in software development and programming, and we have no doubt that their excellent IT, Maths and problem solving skills coupled with their creativity will help them to succeed in that area.  Michael has already proved themselves to be a valuable part of the HARC team, by applying what has become their trademark logic to a number of IT challenges.

We were also approached by Hastings & Rother Furniture Services (HFS) who have been working to help people with low incomes to furnish and equip their homes since 1988. HFS approached us with a proposal that would allow Megan to work in their furniture store whilst undertaking her Level 2 Apprenticeship in Customer Service. We agreed to fund her salary and associated costs for 6 months to enable her to undertake the Customer Service Apprenticeship.

Without the support from the Foundation, Neither HARC nor HFS would be able to employ these individuals for the number of hours required to gain a full apprenticeship, meaning our candidates wouldn’t have the opportunity to gain a qualification.

By supporting the above charities, through funding these individuals’ salaries, it enables them to gain valuable on the job experience, whilst also supporting the charities they work for. Philip, Michael and Megan will all learn key skills that will kick start their careers. This combined with a qualification will allow them to either; enter further education or kick start their working careers.

We hope this toe up, will be the first step in a long working career.
